AGRICULTURE AT DOWNLANDS
AGRICULTURE PROGRAM
Downlands College was founded with a deep commitment to country families and to those whose lives are shaped by distance, land, and community. Positioned at the gateway to the Darling Downs, the College is uniquely placed to continue its proud legacy of offering rich, hands‑on agricultural learning to students who are eager to explore the world of primary industries.
The Downlands agricultural program is built on high standards and practical challenges. We empower students to expand their knowledge, master new skills, and forge a career path that aligns with their unique interests, providing dedicated support for both university-bound and vocational futures.
Agricultural Science forms an integral part of our broader science curriculum. It is a practical, immersive subject that invites students of all ages to engage with real‑world learning. Senior students can contribute to their ATAR through Agricultural Science, while others may choose to complete the Certificate II in Rural Operations through our VET program. Much of this learning takes place on our 14‑acre on‑site farm, the Downlands College Rural Centre - a space where theory becomes experience and curiosity becomes capability.
Agriculture at Downlands is not limited to senior students – it’s a learning journey that begins in the junior years. Junior School students are encouraged to explore the Rural Centre through incursions, hands‑on activities, and guided experiences that spark curiosity and build foundational understanding.
Downlands also proudly hosts the annual Moo Baa Munch, an interactive agricultural event that welcomes students from across the region. This engaging day invites young people to discover the importance of agriculture on the Darling Downs and to connect with the people, practices, and innovations that shape the industry.
