Teacher and Year 10 Leader

Downlands College is seeking applications from qualified teachers registered with the Queensland College of Teachers for this permanent full-time teaching position commencing January 2019.

The College is looking for a committed and energetic teacher to join our professional, proactive and enthusiastic College community as a teacher and Year 10 Leader. This Middle Leadership Position shall be appointed for an initial period of four (4) years.

As a member of the Middle Leadership Team, the Year 10 Leader will be committed to the Pastoral Care program, be motivated and be a great communicator who is passionate about student welfare.

The Year 10 Leader be allocated a .6 teaching load.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • ensuring the delivery of effective pastoral care to the students of the Year Level
  • providing effective leadership and management of staff responsible for pastoral groups and supporting their work with one another and with students
  • ensuring compliance with the College Rules, Regulations and Policies with respect to student behaviour expectations, personal presentation, sun safety, anti-harassment and student protection legislation
  • maintaining and enhancing parent/carer involvement in the College Community in pastoral care related issues and programs
  • maintaining and enhancing the College physical environment in ways consistent with College expectations

Science Operating Officer

Downlands College invites applications by suitably qualified persons for the above position.

This is a permanent term-time position commencing January 2019.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be responsible to the Curriculum Leader Science.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the laboratories with respect to equipment supply and general running order and routine.
  • Assist with daily/weekly shopping for practical lessons.
  • Assist with maintaining and sustaining living material for observation/experimental work.
  • Prepare and clean-up for all practical work done by Science.
  • Assist the teachers in a practical manner for Extended Experimental Investigations.
  • Encourage a positive attitude towards a secure and safe working environment for students and staff.
  • Generally assist the Curriculum Leader and Science Staff in the day-to-day running of the department.


Essential skills/qualifications for this role include:

  • Knowledge of general science and relevant laboratory experience – Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques.
  • Advanced level IT skills and competence; specifically, in Microsoft Office and/or competence with a workplace Database system.
  • Demonstrated, high-level oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and high-level organisational ability including the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and oral.
  • Proven ability to work as a constructive member of a team with a professional, courteous manner.
  • Current First Aid Certificate, including CPR.
  • Current Blue Card
  • A willingness to contribute to a school co-curricular activity.

Desirable skills/qualifications for this role include:

  • Experience working in a school environment.
  • Experience in using school computer products including a School Database and Learning Management System (LMS)
