Teacher of Years 4 to 6 (0.5 Contract)

The College is seeking applications from qualified middle to upper primary teachers registered with the Queensland College of Teachers for a 0.5 Full Time Equivalent (two and a half -days per week) contract to commence 15 July and conclude 29 November 2019. The position would involve the release from face-to-face and include the teaching of Music and Drama.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A commitment to excellence in middle to upper primary education and a proven capacity for innovative, flexible and differentiated teaching practices
  • Ability to plan and implement successful educational programs and critically assess their own teaching and learning practice to pursue the best possible outcomes for every child
  • Experience teaching primary Music, with either experience or a willingness to teach primary Drama
  • Ability to teach Religious Education
  • Experience with the use of ICTs in the classroom
  • Awareness of the AITSL Professional Standards and their relevance to effective teaching and learning

Teacher of Mathematics and Science

The College is seeking applications from qualified teachers registered with the Queensland College of Teachers for a full-time contract position to commence Monday 15 July and to conclude Friday 29 November 2019.

Qualifications to teach Years 7 – 10 Mathematics and Science is required. A willingness to teach Religious Education would be advantageous. Applicants with a Physical Education background are also encouraged to apply.

College Counsellor

The College is seeking applicants from a qualified counsellor for part-time (two days per week) contract position commencing 15 July 2019 and concluding 2 December 2019.

 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The Student Counsellor should either possess or be capable of developing the following key skills and attributes:

  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications and experience in counselling young people that fosters resilience and addresses the social, emotional and educational needs of young people
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people to identify and address students’ specific social, emotional, learning and behaviour needs
  • Experience in providing support to a school or schools and their pastoral care teams in building resilience and proactive approaches to pastoral care
  • The ability to make appropriate referrals to external agencies for young people as required
  • A commitment to maintaining confidential files and ensuring high levels of discretion and confidentiality
  • The ability to provide support and guidance as appropriate to the School Executive and Pastoral Care Team

Experience counselling primary school age children and conducting educational assessments eg WISC testing would be an advantage.

Teacher of Science, Agriculture & Vocational Education Courses in Agriculture

Downlands College is renowned for its Agriculture Programs, with over 100 students undertaking studies in related subjects at its modern 14 hectare on site Rural Centre. The College is seeking applicants from qualified teachers registered with the Queensland College of Teachers for a 12-month contract position commencing 15 July 2019.

Qualifications to teach Years 7 – 10 Science, Year 8 – 12 Agriculture, Certificate I Agrifood Operations and Certificate II Rural Operations is required. A willingness to teach Religious Education would be advantageous.
